Profit Margin Calculator takes a cost price and a selling price and returns the profit, the margin and the markup side by side.

Both percentages come from the same profit but divide it by different things: margin is profit ÷ selling price, markup is profit ÷ cost price. That is why a 50% markup is only a 33.33% margin, and why quoting one as the other is the mistake this page exists to catch. It runs in one direction only — there is no mode that takes a target margin and hands back the price you would have to charge — and since cost and selling price are the only two inputs, the margin shown is gross, with no overheads, shipping or payment-gateway fees taken out of it.
