The canvas is fixed, so the one decision that changes the result is the fit. Cover scales the photo until it covers the frame and lets the overflow fall outside the edges, which is what the control starts on and which does crop. Contain scales it until the entire picture is inside and pads the strip that is left over, so nothing is lost but the subject sits smaller; that padding can be a blurred enlargement of your own photo, flat white or black, or a colour you name. The result panel prints the source pixel size next to the output size, which is how you tell whether a small photo was enlarged to get there.
The photograph is decoded and redrawn by the browser on your own machine. It is not uploaded to ShortTrick, and nothing is sent to Instagram — the finished JPEG is a file you download and post yourself.
