The source is walked character by character, breaking a line at every brace and semicolon while tracking string, template-literal and comment state, so a semicolon inside a string is not mistaken for the end of a statement. A line that begins with a closing bracket is outdented to line up with its opener. It is an indenter and nothing more: long expressions are not re-wrapped, no style guide is applied, no AST is built, and single-letter names left behind by a minifier stay exactly as minified. Expect readable code, not code formatted the way Prettier would format it.
The code is reformatted inside the page — which is the point when the file you are inspecting belongs to someone else or has a key embedded in it.
