Barcode Generator draws a CODE128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, CODE39 or ITF-14 barcode and returns it as both a PNG and an SVG.
The value is validated against the chosen symbology before anything is drawn, then rendered with the jsbarcode library onto a canvas for the bitmap and into an SVG element for the vector file. For EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14 the modulo-10 check digit is the gate: supply the short form and the digit is calculated and appended, supply the full number and a wrong final digit is refused with the correct one named, because a code that fails its own check digit simply fails at the scanner instead. CODE39 is upper-cased and restricted to 0-9, A-Z, space and - . $ / + %, while CODE128 accepts any ASCII and rejects accented or non-Latin characters outright.
Validation and rendering both happen in the page, so product codes and internal asset numbers are not uploaded and the two image files are built on your own device.

How it works
The value is validated against the chosen symbology first. For EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14 the modulo-10 check digit is recalculated: supply the short form and it is appended for you, supply the full number and a mismatch is rejected rather than drawn.
Check digits, and why a wrong one is refused
The last digit of an EAN-13 is derived from the other twelve using alternating weights of 1 and 3. A scanner recomputes it and rejects the read when it does not match. A generator that draws an invalid number anyway only moves the failure to the till, so an incorrect check digit is reported as an error here instead.
Which symbology to use
CODE128 for internal labels and anything containing letters — it is compact and handles full ASCII. EAN-13 for retail products sold outside North America, UPC-A inside it. EAN-8 for packs too small for a full EAN-13. ITF-14 for outer shipping cartons. CODE39 only where an older scanner demands it.
Printing a barcode that actually scans
Use the SVG and print at 100% scale. Never stretch a barcode on one axis: uneven bar widths are the most common reason a scanner refuses to read. Keep the light margin either side, and print dark on white rather than colour on colour.
