How to Use Pixelate Image Online: Step-by-Step Guide
Turn a whole picture into flat colour blocks, 2px to 100px per block
About Pixelate Image — Free Online Tool
Pixelate Image replaces a picture with a grid of flat colour blocks, at a block size you set anywhere from 2 up to 256 pixels.
It runs in two passes: the image is first drawn down to one pixel per block with smoothing on, which averages everything underneath into a single colour, then scaled back up with smoothing switched off so the blocks come out hard-edged instead of fading into one another. Because the detail is averaged away in that first pass it is genuinely gone, not merely covered — unlike a black box drawn on top, there is nothing underneath left to recover. As with the blur, the effect covers the whole image; there is no region tool, so pixelating one number plate means cropping to it first.
Both passes happen on a canvas in your browser.
Redacting a cropped screenshot of an ID or a card number, destroying the detail in a face before publishing, making a low-fidelity stand-in for a mockup, and producing deliberate 8-bit style artwork.

When to use it
Pixelating a crop that holds nothing but the detail you want gone is a real redaction, because the averaging throws the original values away instead of drawing over them. The same grid also gives you a deliberate low-fidelity, video-game look.
How it works
Step one shrinks the canvas until a single pixel stands for a whole block, which makes that pixel the mean of everything beneath it. Step two enlarges it again with interpolation switched off, so each block keeps a hard border rather than fading into its neighbours. No part of the frame is exempt.
Choosing A Block Size
Anything from 2 pixels, which is barely perceptible, up to 100, which leaves very little standing. The result panel reports the effective resolution in blocks next to the image, so you can see how much of the original is actually left.
