PNG to SVG Converter

PNG to SVG rewrites a bitmap as an SVG built from coloured rectangles, scanning the image row by row and emitting one rectangle per run of identical colour.

This is not contour tracing. The image is sampled on a grid of roughly 400 scan lines across its longer side and each horizontal run of one colour becomes an axis-aligned rectangle, so the output is a mosaic of blocks rather than the smooth outlines a drawing application produces — it scales without going fuzzy, because rectangles are vectors, but the stepped edges scale up with it and no curve is ever recovered. It suits flat artwork with few colours: a logo in two or three tones, a solid icon, a QR code. A photograph yields tens of thousands of rectangles and a file larger than the original, for no benefit at all.
