This page reads text you type or paste aloud and returns it as a single MP3 you can play here or download, in one of twelve languages. The voices are the standard ones the upstream service provides rather than anything trained here, so expect clear, flat narration rather than a performance.

The text is broken into pieces of at most 160 characters, split at sentence endings where it can be and at word boundaries where a sentence runs longer than that. Each piece is synthesised as its own request and the returned MP3 segments are joined end to end, which is why a long passage has a small pause at every sentence break — it is a set of separate recordings glued together, not one continuous read. Only the first 60 pieces are used, so somewhere around 9,600 characters the text stops being read — the result says how many characters made it in, so a long passage does not quietly come back half-spoken — and the only setting is the language: one voice per language, with no speed, pitch or speaker choice.

This one is different from the rest of the site, and it should say so plainly: the text you enter is sent to the ShortTrick server and forwarded to Google's text-to-speech endpoint, which returns the audio. It is not synthesised on your device. Nothing is kept here, but the text does leave your machine and reach a third party — so this is not the place to paste anything confidential.

Hearing a draft read back to catch a sentence that does not scan, making a short narration track for a video or a slide, generating the pronunciation of a phrase in another language, and turning a paragraph into audio for someone who would rather listen than read.
